Our faith has been significantly affected by the disclosure by our child that they were transgender. We struggled to come to terms with what this has meant. It has been a journey with many tears, sadness and slowly moving towards happiness. Many years of ingrained 'understanding', built from stereotypical education' resulted in a gradual rebuilding of what LGBT actually means and a move towards what it feels like to come out as either LGBT. Our journey is nothing compared to those who are LGBT but we need to walk alongside our child because we love them totally. This is not a separation but a time of rebuilding that relationship so that we can grow closer and love them more deeply.
We found solace with a group called Two:23 in London - bit of a journey from Lincolnshire - where we found other parents who wanted/needed support. We also noted the large number of Christians who found it difficult to worship freely in their 'home' churches but through Diverse Church had now found an opportunity. We want to help others now as we continue to move forward. It will be a journey which will be mutually beneficial. We would like to stress however that although we are Christians we do not include this in our support. It would be unfair and show a great lack of authenticity if we didn't mention this; but, as we are hurting we walk with others, to help and support on your journey with your child.
Our support is via the telephone, email and using a Facebook secure group. We also travel to neutral venues to listen to you face-to-face. You can contact us using the social media icons to the top right of the screen or by using the website contact page.
We have a safeguarding policy available below.
